Camping (fishing) with the Burton's

This weekend we went camping/fishing with Brett's family. It was a lot of fun-three brothers, three sister in laws, eight cousins, two grandparents (that isn't all of them-just the ones who could make it) three trailers, one camper,three boats, eight motorcycles---a recipe for fun and adventure!!- and surprisingly no major accidents or injuries!!

It did seem to be the beginning of life without Chad though. He had to work, and couldn't come with us. I wasn't thrilled at all-I just really miss having him with us-and then of course, I worry about him being home alone-we all survived though. We had cell phone service in a lot of spots up there-so we talked a little to him and he left voice mails for us. He did miss us though-so that is good!

Brett just called me, and while we were gone this weekend, two teenage boys that we know (one 18, and one 14) tried to kill themselves. The 14 year old was successful-he hung himself in his room. Nathan is good friends with this boy's younger brother.... the 18 year old overdosed, and they had to life flight him to Salt Lake City, Ut. and we haven't heard yet how he is doing-with him, they aren't positive if it was intentional, or what-though circumstances make it look like it might have been. This boy was in Chad's grade, and played basketball with him for a couple of years. I am quite concerned about the effect this could have on my children and the other children in Shelley. I have a good friend who is a social worker and she has made teenage suicide a main interest of hers and we have talked about how this can go through a school or area-once one child does it, for some reason, others seem to see it as an answer to their struggles. It is so scary the things that our children have to face and deal with these days, and that they get to the point that they see death as the only answer. It is just awful that this has happened again in our community.
